A Personalized Approach to In-House Delivery

As many food & beverage vendors are well aware, hiring, training and employing their own delivery drivers is not economically viable. As seen with COVID-19, many dining rooms shutdown and this increased the importance of leveraging delivery properly. For many restaurants, this “new” income stream (from delivery) literally made the difference between keeping their doors open or having to close up shop.

With the introduction of delivery drivers and 3rd party apps, this “ecosystem” has changed. At the heart of everything, working with someone you know and trust matters now more than ever. According to the National Restaurant Association, employee turnover across the entire restaurant industry was 61% in 2016. Most restaurants will lose around $150,000 a year just from employee turnover. The reason both drivers and employees are mentioned is because they are related. If a collaborative approach is taken by a group of vendors (delivery hub) that are geographically close to one another, the burden doesn’t just fall on 1 restaurant. The need for on-demand delivery drivers now becomes a shared responsibility, everyone in the group benefits

With the InstaMarkt delivery app, food & beverage vendors can leverage their staff to help support delivery. In other words, “employees” can be delivery drivers in a part-time fashion. If a delivery is needed, one of those employees can clock out, go and make that delivery and then resume their duties when they return. In addition to leveraging “employees”, there may be some delivery drivers that are not employees of one of the food vendors and are strictly independent contractors. Supporting delivery with this hybrid approach (using a combination of independent contractors and employees) makes the entire operation more locally supported. Another important point here is that all the delivery drivers that support a given hub are invitation-only. If vendors have a say in “who” their delivery drivers are (which they do), then those delivery drivers know the menu, the staff and how operations are handled. Customers see the same group of delivery drivers and appreciate the familiarity. There isn’t some random driver showing up to make their delivery. This level of personalization impacts customer satisfaction in a profound way.
